Water is the Foundation
As a coach working across metabolic health, hormonal wellbeing, and stress and emotional resilience, I see water as the foundation everything else is built on.
Dehydration affects so many people and can show up as things we often just accept as normal: fatigue, brain fog, headaches, hormonal imbalance, afternoon slumps, poor sleep, low mood, poor recovery, and difficulty concentrating.
Consistent, quality hydration is one of the simplest and most powerful things you can do for your health. Everything else you do for your body works better when your cells are truly hydrated.

Growing up in the UK, I used a Brita filter and drank bottled water, thinking both were healthy choices. When I moved to New Zealand I continued with bottled water for a while, then filtered the town water supply, and ultimately moved to tank water, assuming each step was an upgrade. It wasn't until I really started researching that I understood how different water sources actually compare, and what our bodies genuinely need from the water we drink every day.
How different water sources compare:
Bottled water: often comes in plastic, which raises real questions around microplastics, storage, heat exposure, and chemical leaching
Reverse osmosis: highly effective at reducing contaminants, but strips everything out (including minerals), leaving water that is essentially dead unless properly remineralised
Standard filtered water: can reduce certain contaminants depending on the filter, but not all filters are equal. Many people assume filtered means purified, mineral-rich and optimised, when often it simply means some things have been reduced
Spring water: mineral-rich when sourced well, but once bottled in plastic it can carry the same storage and packaging concerns as other bottled waters
Tank and bore water: often assumed to be superior to town water, but can carry its own challenges including bacteria, pathogens, and lower mineral content. The source and filtration setup matter enormously
Hydrogen-rich water: water containing dissolved molecular hydrogen gas, H₂, produced through electrolysis. This is what much of the emerging research is focused on, particularly around oxidative stress, inflammation, recovery, and cellular health
Whatever your water source, here are the key steps worth considering:
Remove sediment: a basic first step, particularly important for tank and bore water
Kill bacteria and pathogens: essential for tank, bore, and river water where contamination is a real risk
Filter out toxins: chlorine, fluoride, heavy metals, and other contaminants are common in town water supplies, and in tank water that has been topped up from a town water source
Retain or add minerals: reverse osmosis strips minerals out. Tank and rainwater are often naturally low in minerals. A quality filtration system retains what's there or adds back what's needed
Consider your flow rate and setup: the right system depends on your water source, your household, and what you're using the water for
When investing in a filtration system, look for one that removes at least 99.9% of bacteria, pathogens, heavy metals, and chemical contaminants, while retaining or restoring essential minerals. Not all filters meet this standard.
Clean water, free from toxins and with the right mineral balance, is a foundation of good health.
The source water matters. Mineral content matters. Filtration matters. How the hydrogen is produced matters. How quickly you drink it matters. How it is stored matters.
The question is not only "Is my water clean?"
It is also "Is my water actually supporting my body in the way I think it is?"
Not all water is equal

I wasn't looking to improve my water when I first came across hydrogen-rich water. I thought my filtered tank water was doing the job, and I had no idea what I was missing.
Since making the switch I've noticed more energy, improved mental clarity, and significantly better recovery after training. Symptoms of osteoarthritis that had begun to appear have all but disappeared. And I drink three litres a day without thinking about it, because it genuinely tastes that good.
That experience led me to want to understand the science properly, which is why I certified as a Molecular Hydrogen Adviser.
What is hydrogen-rich water and how can it support you?
Molecular hydrogen, H₂, is the smallest molecule in existence, which means it can penetrate cells, including the brain, delivering an antioxidant effect that far exceeds conventional antioxidants. Oxidative stress is at the root of fatigue, inflammation, slow recovery, and accelerated ageing, and this is one of the most powerful ways to address it at a cellular level.
Researchers are actively studying its role in cellular balance, recovery, and long-term health. As a Molecular Hydrogen Adviser, I stay current with the emerging science and cut through the noise, so I can share with you what is grounded in science, relevant, and genuine.
This is what that can look like in practice:
Support energy levels and reduce fatigue
Improve mental clarity and focus
Aid recovery and ease inflammation
Support long-term cellular health and healthy ageing
Align with metabolic health, fasting, and hormone-balancing protocols
Replace chemical cleaning products around the home with different pH waters
Support your community's performance, recovery and overall wellbeing (for gyms, studios and wellness spaces)
This is the water I drink every day. And the machine that makes it has transformed how I think about hydration, home care, and long-term health.
The Kangen K8 is a medical-grade, Japanese-engineered water ioniser that has been trusted by families, wellness practitioners, and athletes worldwide for over 50 years. It produces up to seven different types of water for drinking, cooking, cleaning, beauty, and more, all from one machine on your benchtop.
Everyone I know who owns a Kangen machine cannot imagine living without it. One machine, one investment, serving your whole family for 20 years and beyond.
Many people, myself included, fall so in love with the water and what it does for their health and vitality that they choose to become a distributor. The business opportunity is real, flexible, and genuinely rewarding.
Introducing the Kangen

More than drinking water
One of the things that makes the Kangen machine so special is that it produces five categories of water, each with a specific purpose. One machine, replacing a whole cabinet of products.
Strong Kangen Water (11.5 pH): food preparation, removing pesticides from produce, heavy-duty cleaning around the home
Kangen Water (8.5–9.5 pH): your daily drinking water, cooking, making tea and coffee, and watering plants
Clean Water (7.0 pH): neutral pH water, ideal for taking medications and preparing baby formula
Beauty Water (4.0–6.0 pH): toning and caring for skin, hair rinsing, gentle cleaning, and pet care
Strong Acidic Water (2.5 pH): a powerful sanitiser for surfaces, utensils, and food preparation areas
This versatility means one machine supports your entire family's daily wellness, from drinking and cooking to cleaning, beauty, and sanitising. One machine, serving your whole family for 20 years and beyond.
For those following a fasting or metabolic health protocol, many people find that drinking Kangen Water during a fast supports hydration and recovery in a way that feels noticeably different.

Elite athletes have long understood the role of hydration in performance and recovery. What is less understood is that the type of water matters just as much as how much you drink.
Every time a muscle contracts, metabolic acids are produced. The more effectively these clear from muscle tissue, the faster recovery happens and the less fatigue accumulates. Hydrogen-rich water supports this process at a cellular level, which is why it has caught the attention of elite athletes, sports medicine researchers, and everyday fitness enthusiasts alike.
Marathoners reporting better times. CrossFit athletes and Hyrox competitors coming off a hard session with less soreness. Weekend warriors noticing better muscle definition with less strain. These are the kinds of shifts people describe when they make the switch.
For women specifically, the connection between hydration, hormonal health, and physical performance is significant. Cellular hydration supports energy production, recovery, mood, and the hormonal balance that underpins how you feel and function every day, whether you're training hard or simply wanting to feel your best.
The research in this area is growing rapidly. Get in touch and I'll share the specific studies that are most relevant for you.
